Belgian Cultural Center
The Belgian Cultural Center is a four story conceptual project located in what is currently the Nueue Gallery on the Upper East Side in New York City. This project was designed to celebrate Belgium’s cultural contributions and provide a space for New Yorkers and travelers to experience and learn about Belgian cuisine, art, history, and design.
The space consists of a large main community space, restaurant and cafe, outdoor garden, gallery, and two floors of residential space. The design is inspired by Belgian architects Vincent Van Duysen and Axel Vervoordt, both of whom emphasize simplicity and the use of natural materials and motifs in their work. Each piece is also either Belgian made, antique, or directly inspired by a Belgian custom.
